Chapter 8 - Practice Exercise 2

Exercise 3: Create Your Own Outline of a Cause and Effect Essay

Following the format of the outline appearing above, create your own. Be sure to include your thesis statement and topic sentences for each body paragraph; and restate your thesis using different words in the conclusion.

Exercise 4: Create an Effective Introduction to a Cause and Effect Essay

Using the example outline and paragraph as a guide, create an effective introduction to your role model essay. Be sure to include a hook, relevant and interesting background information, and, of course, a thesis that clearly addresses the prompt: states a cause, which should be your role model’s character traits; explains his or her effect on you; and lists the main supporting points.
